Born in Tokyo, Japan as Nobuyo Yamashita (山下羨代), Nobuyo Ooyama passed away on September 29, 2024. She is best remembered for voicing Doraemon, the robot cat from the future, in the second Doraemon TV series. Ooyama portrayed the character from 1979 until her retirement in 2016. Her tenure covered the extensive run of the long-running television series, as well as the numerous Doraemon movies and TV specials released during that period. Beyond her iconic role, she performed various other voice acting roles throughout her career. In May 2015, her husband, actor Keisuke Sagawa, announced that she was suffering from dementia associated with Alzheimer's disease, noting that symptoms had first appeared as early as 2008.
