Danganronpa: The Animation

Synopsis

In Danganronpa: The Animation, Makoto Naegi, a completely average high schooler lacking any special talents, is surprisingly accepted into Hope's Peak Academy. This prestigious institution is famous for recruiting the most gifted individuals from every field. Although Naegi feels out of place, he is eager to attend the celebrated school that promises a guaranteed path to success for its students. Brimming with hopeful anticipation, he walks through the academy's distinguished gates. However, shortly after arriving, Naegi loses consciousness and awakens in what appears to be an empty classroom. Confused and disoriented, he explores the school and eventually discovers his fellow students gathered in the gymnasium. As they all struggle to comprehend their situation, a peculiar robotic teddy bear named Monokuma, who claims to be the school's principal, addresses the group. Monokuma reveals that the students are trapped within the academy and can only escape by murdering a classmate without being caught. Naegi and the others now face a terrifying choice: either participate in Monokuma's deadly game or remain imprisoned within the school walls forever.

Background

Due to the success of the Danganronpa games, various spin-offs on a variety of media were made including the anime adaption and Danganronpa/Zero, a series of two novels written by Tsuyoshi Kodakazu and illustrated by Rui Komatsuzaki which were released on September 15, 2011 and October 13, 2011.
