At Hope's Peak Academy, a school famous for housing geniuses like the Ultimate Pop Sensation and the Ultimate Martial Artist, an ordinary boy named Makoto Naegi enrolls as the Ultimate Lucky Student after winning a lottery. But on his first day, everything changes when he and his classmates suddenly lose consciousness. Waking up, they find themselves trapped inside the school. Their captor, Monokuma—a sinister black-and-white bear—announces that their only way to escape is for one student to murder another without getting caught. If the killer is discovered, they will be executed, and the "School Life of Mutual Murder" continues until only one student remains. Forced into Monokuma's twisted game, the 78th class of Hope's Peak Academy must struggle to survive, solving the mystery of their imprisonment by relying on intelligence, luck, and above all, hope.
