Personal Information

A veteran of the voiceover industry since 1991, Artt Butler began his career during the era of reel-to-reel recordings and cassette submissions via FedEx. He initially served as the lead booth director at a premier Los Angeles voiceover agency, earning a reputation as a favorite among talent for his ability to speak the language of actors. Butler provided concise, insightful, and in-depth direction that kept performers calm, leaving them feeling accomplished and confident, which ultimately helped them secure work. Despite his success behind the scenes, Butler, who was not a "look at me" type, had no initial interest in performing. However, after fifteen years of directing and coaching a wide range of talent in the city, he decided to try performing himself. Leveraging the lessons learned from the seasoned veterans he had directed, he transitioned to a successful career on the other side of the glass in commercials and animation. In 2009, shortly after voicing the McDonald's/Avatar campaign, he became the national legal tag voice for Chrysler television and radio commercials. He also appeared as the Jack Bauer-esque anti-terrorism specialist Agent Jack Flowers in the season 3 finale of the Adult Swim hit The Boondocks. In 2011, a childhood dream was realized when he joined the Star Wars family as the iconic space-fish Captain Ackbar. This role meant he would spend the rest of his life uttering the phrase "It's a TRAP!", a situation he embraces completely.
