Personal Information
Gwendoline See-Hian Yeo was born in Singapore and is the niece of George Yeo, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs. As a teenager, she relocated to California, graduating with honors from St. Ignatius College Preparatory in 1994. Before turning twenty, she earned a BA summa cum laude from UCLA, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and also obtained a diploma in Classical Piano from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her passion for music led her to specialize in the guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument, which resulted in a solo radio show on NPR-KCRW and the release of her first two zither and vocal tracks, "Kiss My Grits" and "Lovers." In 1998-1999, Yeo was crowned Miss Chinatown USA, a title that opened doors to hosting and commercial work before her television and film careers flourished. Prior to acting, she was active in beauty pageants, winning the Miss Asian America Pageant in 1995 and the Miss Chinatown USA Pageant. In her acting career, Yeo portrayed Dr. Kelly Lee on General Hospital until March 2006, with her first episode airing on January 3, 2006. Originally part of the Jax and Courtney baby storyline, her character appeared to be the only OBGYN practicing at the hospital. Her television credits include appearances on 24, JAG, NYPD Blue, and The O.C., along with guest spots on Hannah Montana and Chuck. She also guest starred as Xiao-Mei in several episodes of Desperate Housewives. In voice acting, she is known for voicing Paine in Final Fantasy X-2 and Kingdom Hearts II, as well as Lady Deathstrike in X-Men: Next Dimension, Mercy Graves in The Batman, Li-en in Zatch Bell!, and Lieutenant Keiko Tanaka in an episode of What's New, Scooby Doo?. Yeo's filmography includes roles in Daughters of Joy, Night Skies, and The Perfect Girl. In the film Broken Trail, she played "Sun Foy," a character referred to as "number three" by Robert Duvall. In 2007, she appeared as Dr. Samantha Yep in The Jane Austen Book Club. She is occasionally mistaken for another voice actress named Gwendolyn Lau.
