While hospitalized for hepatitis during the winter, Yuichi made multiple escape attempts but was always caught and disciplined by the nurses. Eventually, he encountered Rika, a girl his age, in a different ward. Even though she acted selfishly, Yuichi found himself captivated by her beautiful looks. As she continued to take advantage of him, his affection for her intensified. Only after learning about her terminal condition did he understand the reason behind her behavior, realizing how little time she had remaining.
