In "The Gods Lie," eleven-year-old Natsuru Nanao stands out as his soccer team's top player, yet struggles to connect with girls due to an incident from his past after transferring to a new school. Having lost his father, Natsuru lives with his mother and aspires to become a professional soccer player. His life shifts dramatically when a classmate, Rio Suzumura, reaches out to him. Natsuru grows fascinated with Rio following their conversation. Later, while rescuing a stray cat, he encounters Rio and her younger brother, Yuuta, at a supermarket and asks if they can adopt the cat. They agree. When Natsuru visits their home, however, he finds the siblings living alone in a cluttered house, a reality Rio desperately tries to hide. As Natsuru spends more time with Rio and Yuuta, the reasons behind their solitary existence and the secrets they keep begin to surface.
