Gokukoku no Brynhildr

After an accident that killed his childhood friend Kuroneko, Ryouta Murakami becomes obsessed with searching for extraterrestrial life, a dream he once shared with her. A decade later, Ryouta is the only member of his school's Astronomy Club, spending his nights looking for signs of aliens. One day, a transfer student named Neko Kuroha arrives in his class; she looks almost exactly like his lost friend. However, Neko claims she does not remember Ryouta and leaves after giving him an ominous warning. It later becomes clear that Neko is a witch—someone who uses scientifically advanced magic—and that she escaped from a secret facility where she was subjected to countless experiments. As more witches seeking to escape their grim fate join the Astronomy Club, Ryouta sees the brutal way they are treated. Driven by this, he resolves to protect the witches from those who want to harm them and to find out the truth behind the connection between Neko and Kuroneko.
