In "Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu," Tsubaki takes pride in styling her younger sister’s hair every morning, though she feels such styles aren’t right for herself. On her high school entrance day, after not securing the top student position which would have allowed her to give the opening speech, she finds herself seated beside Kyouta, the actual top student and the most obnoxious boy in the year. When Kyouta starts insulting her, Tsubaki retaliates by cutting his hair. In response, Kyouta demands she compensate him "with her body," but Tsubaki opts to cut his hair even shorter. Surprisingly, Kyouta then kisses Tsubaki and vows to make her his own.
