Following the completion of his serialized series Resonance, mangaka Chikara Nagai plans to eliminate Lin, a pivotal character, in an unexpected turn of events. After receiving largely critical feedback from his editor, Nagai spends another sleepless night working on the concluding pages of his manga. Feeling drowsy, he observes Lin breaking free and stealing the manga spread detailing their demise. Before Nagai can grasp the situation, he is suddenly transported into the world of his own creation, finding himself amidst a battle between the protagonist, Satoko Miura, and the antagonist, "The Masque." Blurring the lines between dream and reality, Nagai joins forces with Satoko to locate an alternative ending to the manga, aiming to escape and return to his own world.

Background

Opus was Satoshi Kon's final manga before he debuted in the anime industry through Perfect Blue. The manga was axed due to the cancellation of its publishing magazine. A missing end chapter to Opus was found after Kon's death. The series was published in English by Dark Horse as a 2-in-1 omnibus volume on November 26, 2014. The publisher later released a complete omnibus volume. It was also released in French by Éditions IMHO from June 6, 2013, to November 14, 2013, and in Italian by Panini Comics from May 16, 2013, to July 13, 2013. Éditions IMHO's translation of the manga won the 2013 Asia Critics Prize from the Association des Critiques et des journalistes de Bande Dessinée.
