During World War II, as Japan faces worldwide opposition and constant bombings, a romance develops between Chieko Mochida and Toshio Anazawa. Though they care for each other, war and personal struggles keep driving them apart. After Toshio joins the military to serve his country, the distance between them grows. Still, their connection continues through heartfelt letters exchanged amid the horrors of war. Meanwhile, aspiring artist Shinichi Nagakawa gets into a car crash with an unknown girl. Waking up in a strange, empty space, they discover that only one can return to life while the other must give up theirs. Given seven days to decide, they start sharing each other's feelings and experiences. At first cautious, the girl, later identified as Yuuki Sanada, begins to open up to Shinichi. As the deadline approaches, they grow closer, revealing past regrets and developing real emotions for one another. Elsewhere, Kenji Kuroda has feelings for his senior, Hazuki Itou, and finally gathers the courage to write her a love letter. However, the letter ends up with a different girl, Azusa Itou, who happily returns Kenji's feelings. Charmed by Azusa's cheerful and innocent nature, Kenji tentatively starts a relationship with her. As Kenji's feelings toward Azusa change due to the initial mix-up, the future of their relationship remains uncertain.
