Nanoka steps through a portal and ends up in the Taisho era, where she is saved from a grotesque yokai by the reluctant exorcist Mao. After returning to the present day, she discovers she has gained strange new powers. Seeking answers, she goes back to the past, only to become entangled in Mao's investigation of a string of brutal murders. As her own mysteries deepen, Nanoka learns that Mao is under a curse from a cat demon named Byoki, and the same curse binds his sword—anyone else who tries to wield it will meet a fatal end. Yet, when Mao's life is at risk, Nanoka dares to pick up his blade and strike.
