While attending the funeral of her former classmate, Haruka Origichi, Suga reflects on how unfortunate it is for someone so young to die, though she had always viewed Origichi as a quiet, unremarkable student whose existence seemed equally ordinary. After the ceremony, Origichi's mother approaches Suga under the assumption they were close friends. The mother asks about her daughter's ex-boyfriend, whom Origichi had kept hidden from everyone until recently—revealing that Origichi had undergone an abortion before falling ill. Suga agrees to look into this mystery and eventually teams up with former senior Takashi Yanai, popular student Madoka Setouchi, devoted friend Remi Nishida, and enigmatic heartthrob Hikaru Narumi. Although Suga and Origichi were not close during her lifetime, Suga now feels driven to learn more about her deceased classmate. By retracing the events of their second year in high school, Suga delves deeper into the lives of those potentially connected to Origichi, learning in the process to be more open with others and more honest with herself.
