Kazuto Kirigaya made it through the deadly Aincrad incident orchestrated by Sword Art Online's creator, Akihiko Kayaba, and came back to the real world. However, his virtual-realm love interest, Asuna Yuuki—known as Asuna the Flash—remains trapped in a persistent coma. Despite the sorrowful looks from his sister Suguha, Kazuto keeps visiting Asuna in the hospital, searching for a way to help her. One day, an unexpected visitor shows up, claiming to be Asuna's fiancé, and shows him an in-game screenshot depicting someone who closely resembles Asuna being held captive. Armed with this new lead, Kirito must dive into the new VRMMORPG called ALfheim Online to rescue Asuna.
