During a physical education class, the unathletic Aono is hit in the face with a ball and ends up in the infirmary. There, he meets the brash Ritsuko Akine, who begins playing the violin in the room, believing she is alone. However, due to a past incident, rumors have spread that Akine is a bully, isolating her from her peers—a fact Aono does not know. Akine dreams of attending a school with an orchestra, but her amateurish playing and lack of musical knowledge irritate Aono greatly. Seeing this as a chance for them to become friends, their teacher suggests Aono teach Akine how to play the violin, which he strongly opposes. Yet as they spend more time together, they learn to understand and help each other—and Aono may finally rediscover the lost passion and melody in his life.
