In an orphanage where only a handful of children are fortunate enough to receive sponsors, a quiet and curious boy named Mori begins to receive mysterious gifts. Although Mori never speaks, he finds comfort in the company of his friend Rowena, who helps him understand the world around him. When Rowena is finally reunited with her mother, Mori comes to realize that every child has a mother and concludes that his own must exist somewhere as well. Carrying a small pack, sturdy boots, and a red cape he believes came from his mother, Mori leaves the orphanage to set out on his quest. The world beyond is dangerous, as Earth has been taken over by aliens, leaving humans scarce and various creatures inhabiting the vast territories. During his journey, Mori meets Ryder, an alien with red skin, horns, and five eyes. Recognizing Mori’s background and the dangers of his path, Ryder decides to help and protect Mori as he searches for his mother.
