Mirumo de Pon!

ミルモでポン!

In the shonen comedy Mirumo de Pon!, energetic eighth-grader Kaede struggles with her shyness around boys. While walking home from school one day, she stumbles upon an unusual shop and buys a bright cocoa mug. At home, she notices an inscription on the mug's base claiming that reading it aloud while pouring hot cocoa will summon a love fairy called a "muglox" that can grant any wish. Though skeptical, Kaede tries it and wishes to date her popular classmate Yuuki. To her surprise, the cute blue creature Mirumo appears—but he is more interested in eating chocolate and causing mischief than helping her. Mirumo is actually the prince of the muglox realm, having run away to avoid marriage to his fiancée, Princess Rirumu. Now, with Rirumu, the bounty hunter Yashichi, and various other mugloxes—both good and troublesome—chasing him, Kaede's school days are about to become far more chaotic and unpredictable.

Background

Mirumo de Pon! won the 27th Kodansha Manga Award and the 49th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Children category in 2003. The series was published in English as Mirmo Zibang! by Singaporean publisher Chuang Yi. It was also released in German by Carlsen; in French by Kana; in Italian by Play Press; and in Spanish by Editorial Ivrea.
