In the near future, humanity reels from the devastating aftermath of a war against a parasitic virus called "Gastrea." The surviving society struggles in despair. Rentarou and Enju operate as a special unit within the Tendo Civil Security Agency, joining others in fighting the Gastrea threat. Enju is one of the "cursed children"—survivors of the virus who gained extraordinary abilities. Meanwhile, a deranged terrorist in a top hat causes chaos, though Rentarou is more concerned with managing the complications among his fellow civil security officers.
