Attacker YOU!

Attacker You! follows the lively and determined 13-year-old junior high schoolgirl You Hazuki (known as "Mila," "Jeanne," or "Juana" in various Western anime dubs), who relocates from Osaka to Tokyo to live with her father Toshihiko—a cameraman just back from Peru—and attend school. Her mother left when You was very young, so she is absent from the household. You's younger brother Sunny, who is deeply attached to her and shadows her everywhere, including school and her volleyball matches, also lives with them. You grows curious about Kyushi Tajima, the pretty blonde woman she sees covering volleyball games on TV, and about why her father becomes furious whenever You brings her up. You has a burning passion for volleyball and dreams of eventually making Japan's national women's volleyball team for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She joins her school's girls' volleyball team and quickly rises to become one of its top players, despite her coach—who is also her homeroom teacher—being brutal and literally slapping his players when they fail to meet his standards. You begins a rocky friendship with Nami Hayase (French name: "Peggy"), a former school volleyball champion and erstwhile rival, which reaches a critical point when the two girls join opposing professional teams. She also develops a crush on So Takiki, captain of the Hikawa boys' volleyball team (called "Shiro," "Serge," or "Sergio" in some Western versions), and pours as much energy into winning his heart as she does into improving her game.
