In a near-future world, Japan develops the Infinite Stratos (IS), an exoskeletal suit originally created for space travel. It quickly becomes a powerful military asset and later the centerpiece of a competitive sport. The IS has a notable quirk: only women can operate it. That assumption holds until Orimura Ichika appears, the first male capable of piloting an IS. As the younger sibling of celebrated pilot Orimura Chifuyu—famous for her unparalleled skill representing Japan—Ichika enrolls at the IS Academy. This school is almost entirely female, with Ichika as the only male student. Upon arriving, he finds his instructor is none other than his own sister, Chifuyu, which adds further complications. Overwhelmed by the constant attention from other students and their attempts to win his favor, Ichika struggles to balance romantic distractions with his goal of mastering the IS.
