Mikkakan no Koufuku

At twenty, university student Kusunoki faces the harsh reality that his future is bleak. Surviving by selling his belongings, he stumbles upon an opportunity to exchange his remaining years for money. Sadly, this reveals that even thirty years of his life would fetch barely anything, confirming his inevitable unhappiness. Deciding against such a bleak outlook, Kusunoki opts to sell his lifespan, reducing his time left to merely three months. Free from societal pressures, Kusunoki makes a list of ambitions, including clarifying his feelings for his childhood friend, Himeno. Concurrently, Miyagi, the clerk who bought his remaining time, is tasked with monitoring Kusunoki to watch for any risky actions. Despite his annoyance at Miyagi’s persistent watchfulness, Kusunoki commits to making every moment count and finding purpose in his limited time.

Background

Mikkakan no Koufuku began as a web novel posted on the message board 2channel under the title Jumyou wo Kaitotte Moratta. Ichinen ni Tsuki, Ichimanen de. (寿命を買い取ってもらった。一年につき、一万円で。). An expanded and modified version of the series was published in print by ASCII Media Works under the Media Works Bunko label on December 25, 2013. The series was published in English as Three Days of Happiness by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint on October 20, 2020. It was also released in French by Editions Akata under the Young Novel imprint on March 28, 2019; in German by Egmont Manga under the Roman imprint on October 7, 2020; and in Spanish by Norma Editorial on May 14, 2021.
