Rakugo no Ko
らくごのこ
By 1955, the post-war reconstruction of Japan was largely finished, but as other forms of amusement grew, traditional rakugo saw a decline in popularity. In this difficult period, a striking young man named Hananoya Umenojo appeared on the rakugo stage like a shooting star. His performances attracted crowds that filled the hall every single day. The audience and the venue host always treated Umenojo warmly, yet he lacked one essential quality as a rakugo storyteller… A boy who persists in performing despite being untalented, and a girl who possesses talent but cannot take the stage. This tale follows two young people who stake their lives on laughter and struggle through the turbulent currents of skill and fate.
