In "Heterogenia Linguistico," aspiring field linguist Hakaba dedicates himself to studying how monsters communicate. His plans shift when his professor gets hurt in a hot-air balloon accident, prompting Hakaba to head to the Netherworld and continue the professor's work. There, he meets Susuki, the professor's daughter who is half-werewolf and half-human. After settling in, the pair begin their first task: exploring the Goblin Cave. "Heterogenia Linguistico: Ishuzoku Gengogaku Nyuumon" follows Hakaba and Susuki as they journey through the Netherworld, recording the languages and customs of the various monsters they encounter.
