In "Eien no With," third-grader Hitomi Kurio struggles to make friends due to her father's job, which causes their family to move frequently. Feeling isolated and yearning for companionship, she dreams of having a dog but realizes that constant relocations would be harmful to the pet's well-being. When she learns about the "Happy Walkers" initiative, a program where families can raise future guide dogs for a year, Hitomi sees a chance and commits herself to becoming a participant. After three months of intensive training in dog care, Hitomi is accepted into the program and is paired with her own dog, whom she names "Eye," a word derived from the Japanese term for "love." Although Eye is initially shy and frail, Hitomi dedicates herself to raising him into the best possible guide dog. Through her care and devotion, Hitomi and Eye form a deep bond. Eventually, Hitomi must say goodbye to Eye once he is ready to fulfill his role as a guide dog.
