Japan, a nation accustomed to frequent seismic activity, regularly deals with minor earthquakes. Though alarming, the country is generally well-prepared. However, a lone scientist discovers evidence that a recent tremor may have triggered a chain of events that could cause Japan to submerge beneath the sea within a year. The critical challenge is convincing others of this impending doom before it is too late. This series, also titled Japan Sinks, is adapted from a celebrated novel and film of the same name. It offers a rich, layered story that initially appears to focus elsewhere before fully exploring its central premise. The effort invested in following the plot is rewarded with a gripping tale.
