A century ago, a brutal war raged between humans and beasts. After it ended, a grim custom began: each year, a human girl is offered as a sacrifice to be devoured by the Beast King. This tradition continues when 15-year-old Sariphi, the 99th sacrificial victim, is taken from her village to the beast-ruled land of Ozmargo—a region shrouded in poisonous mist and forbidden to humans. Unlike those before her, Sariphi faces her doom with a bright spirit and fearless demeanor, which intrigues even the fearsome Beast King. Drawn to her unique nature and the story of her life, he lets her roam the kingdom freely until the designated night of her sacrifice, regardless of potential repercussions. As Sariphi and the King grow closer, they unwittingly pave the way for an unexpected shift in the destiny of Ozmargo.
