Tooru Kokonoe enrolls at the elite Koryo Academy seeking vengeance for his younger sister's death. The school trains students to manifest Blaze—weapons born from their inner spirit that typically determine their future. However, Tooru is labeled an Irregular because his Blaze takes the form of a shield instead of an offensive weapon. To compensate for his defensive style, the academy's Duo system pairs him with Julie Sigtuna, a silver-haired Scandinavian warrior wielding immense power. Like Tooru, she is consumed by a desire for revenge. Together, they train to refine their abilities and pursue their personal vendettas.
