Souji Mitsuka is a high school freshman who idolizes twintails, believing them to be the ultimate form of human fashion. At school, he spends his days admiring and analyzing the twintails of his female classmates, even founding a club dedicated to celebrating the hairstyle. His obsession does not go unnoticed when aliens arrive on Earth and start collecting twintails. A mysterious woman named Twoearle recruits Souji, granting him the power to transform into Tail Red, a warrior wielding his own twintails as weapons. His mission is to fight the alien faction Ultimegil, which seeks to conquer Earth and drain the spiritual energy—"attribute power"—from its people. Together with fellow twintail warriors Aika Tsube and Erina Shindou, Souji battles to defend twintails and stop the alien invasion.
