Under her ordinary exterior, Yukari Marii hides an extraordinary secret: her purple eyes allow her to perceive all living beings as robots. Her friend Manabu "Gaku" Hatou initially views this as just a peculiar quirk, but he soon realizes there is more depth to Yukari's observations than it seems. Although Yukari's unusual trait sets her apart, her cute and small appearance stirs a strong protective instinct in Hatou. Yukari herself sees Hatou as a "super-modifiable all-purpose robot." Yukari's unique and distorted perception of reality has led to her social isolation, even causing her former friend Nanami Tenjou to treat her badly. After a specific incident, Hatou discovers that Yukari is not the only one with this exceptional perception, known as a "Qualia." When Yukari is taken to a facility for individuals with Qualia, Hatou becomes entangled in a sinister conspiracy that they must fight to escape.
