Mametarou is a male mixed-breed dog who resides with the Wakatsuki family and harbors deep feelings for his owner, Ikuko Wakatsuki, whom he lovingly refers to as Iku. Seeing Iku's boyfriend, Junichi Akiyoshi, as a rival, Mametarou makes his way through various happenings together with Iku, Akiyoshi, their companions Nao and Takeshi, Mametarou's own romantic interest Hanako, and other dogs from the neighborhood.
