In human hearts, negative emotions can take shape as monster-like entities that only "Sweepers" — special individuals tasked with removing these creatures and restoring calm — can eliminate. Kyuutarou Horikita comes from a line of Sweepers, but his classmates at Kurokado High School see him only as a gloomy second-year student obsessed with cleanliness. While exploring the school's abandoned wing, Kyuutarou finds Fumi Nishioka, a newly transferred student with no home. After discovering Fumi's ability to fight negative infestations, Kyuutarou's family takes her in as a housekeeper and begins training her as a novice Sweeper. Yet Fumi holds a dormant power that a sinister group wants to use for their evil purposes.
