Yanai, a veteran manga editor, is in Shinjuku gathering material on the young people who loiter around Kabukicho when a girl suddenly yanks him by his shirt. Misumi lives in a manga café, cleans a love hotel for spare change, and spends every moment consuming manga—but now she has started creating it, and she wants Yanai to read her work. He brushes her off at first, but once he finally looks at it, he finds that she possesses real, albeit rough, talent. He agrees to act as her editor, but he gets far more than he expected when this nearly feral girl moves into his apartment without warning. Her desperation and obsession clash violently with the professional environment he is used to, shaking him out of his everyday routine and opening his eyes to what manga truly is.
