Kuro Daijuuji, a down-on-his-luck detective in Arkham City, is approached by Ruri Hado from the Hado Financial Group to locate a specific magic tome. Although he initially refuses, Kuro takes on the assignment after learning about the generous compensation. During his search, Kuro meets Al, an attractive yet powerful grimoire, and they form a contract that grants Kuro substantial magical abilities. Shortly after, Al activates Demonbane, a deus ex machina owned by the Hado Financial Group, to fight the mechanical threats emerging from the Black Lodge. This action sets the stage for the ensuing conflict between the Hado Financial Group and the Black Lodge.
