Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen

Taisuke Kanou is an ordinary 16-year-old student who shares a close bond with his two friends, Hirose and Megumi. Whenever Hirose gets picked on by bullies, Taisuke steps in to defend him, even if it means taking a beating himself. One day during class, Taisuke is struck by a strange force that flashes a vision of the cosmos before his eyes. Later, heading home, he sees a girl fall to her death—but instead of shock, he feels a surprising wave of envy. It turns out the odd sensation Taisuke experienced is spreading across Japan. Those affected either take their own lives or undergo what's called an "evolution," and the evolved ones often hatch dark schemes for the world.

Background

An anime adaptation was planned for Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen and was to be produced by anime studio , but the production was canceled in 2010 when the studio was delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The series was published digitally in English as Alive: The Final Evolution by Kodansha Comics USA from July 26, 2016, to August 29, 2017. Prior to this, Del Rey Manga had released eight printed volumes from July 31, 2007, to November 24, 2009, before publication was discontinued. The manga was also published in Italian by GP Manga from September 20, 2009, to July 24, 2011.
