Seventeen-year-old Tatsumi Hōjyō is a dreamcatcher (yumegari) from the Houjyo clan whose job requires her to investigate and sometimes take part in the dreams of others. A yumegari is fated to be linked with a yumemori—a person who observes the yumegari’s dreams and keeps them from falling into an eternal slumber. When Tatsumi’s mother and father, the previous yumegari and yumemori, die while carrying out their duties, Tatsumi takes over their role. At the danger of becoming trapped in dreams like her parents were, the yumegari Tatsumi is aided by a dreamseer (yumemori) named Kyosuke Kaga, a 28-year-old novelist. Together they must begin a new life in Tokyo in order to learn more about her extraordinary powers and gain control over them. Despite warnings from the Houjyo clan about the yumemori, their relationship becomes increasingly personal.
