Five years after the death of her parents, Utena Tenjou holds onto memories of a mysterious prince who comforted her during her grief. She calls him "Peropero-kun," and he dried her tears with his tongue before giving her a ring and promising they would meet again. Every spring when the roses bloom, Peropero-kun sends Utena a letter, though her close friend Kaidou suspects these are actually written by Utena’s aunt. Kaidou’s discovery of six matching photos hidden inside the letters proves that Peropero-kun is real and can be found at Ohtori Academy. Driven by her wish to reunite with her prince, Utena transfers to Ohtori Academy. There, she meets the student council and notices their strange treatment of Anthy Himemiya. As Utena investigates the council’s secret activities, she uncovers a tangled web of mysteries that may ultimately lead her to the prince she has been searching for.
