Shinba is a total loser: no skills, no job, no money to his name. And yet, he's dating Hizumi—a beautiful, clever woman who excels at her work. He can't understand why she claims to love him. It almost frightens him, but his feelings for Hizumi run so deep that one day he asks her outright: "Why would you want to date someone like me?" Her reply: "You're always oversleeping, you go on about video games I've never heard of, you sing lame songs nobody knows at karaoke, and you gave me a toy ring as a present. Your face is always gloomy as hell. But... seeing that face just makes me happy, Shinba. I love you, ha ha." Shinba can't tell if she's being honest. She must be hiding some kind of secret, he thinks. He wants to find out what it is... but maybe it's better if he never does.
