Takao Taniguchi's time playing baseball in junior high is cut short when he fractures a finger during a game. After transferring to Sumitani High School, he finds himself repeatedly watching the baseball club's practices, even though he is unable to join. Seeing his fascination, the captain of the soccer team suggests he try soccer instead. Although he still longs to be part of the baseball squad, Taniguchi decides to try out for the soccer team. With no background in the sport, he depends on the discipline he developed through baseball. Gradually, his new teammates recognize his potential. While giving his all to soccer, Taniguchi never loses his love for baseball and begins secretly working as an umpire for baseball matches.
