In the year Showa 38 (1963, just a year before the Tokyo Olympics), the manga centers on the coming-of-age story of Komatsuzaki, an average high school girl with pigtails living in Yokohama, a coastal city close to Tokyo. Her sailor father disappeared following an incident, and her mother, who is a photographer, often travels overseas for work. The narrative explores Komatsuzaki’s daily life filled with "joy and sorrow," alongside her schoolmates, including a member of the school newspaper club and the student council president. The manga also includes one-shot stories such as "Rudy no Tanjoubi" and "Bakubaku Kaban to Ai-chan" in Volume 2.
