Yamato Keisuke is a talented freestyle swimmer, and Ninomiya Ami is a skilled diver. They come from rival families that run confectionery shops. The conflict started two generations ago when Grandfather Ninomiya made an owl-shaped cake. Grandfather Yamato then created a similar cake with added owl ears, giving his product an advantage despite the same price. This caused the Ninomiya shop financial trouble, leading to Grandfather Ninomiya's declining health. On his deathbed, he blamed the Yamato family, saying, "I was done in by the Yamatos." Since then, the two families have been in a bitter feud.
