In this world, every person has a level, and most individuals—usually between levels 1 and 5—make a living by farming or running shops. Only a chosen few are able to hunt monsters, which depends on the role assigned by God. There are eight recognized roles: Warrior, Fighter, Cleric, Magician, Rogue, Merchant, Hunter, and Sorcerer. Those who possess exceptional power fall into three categories: Royalty, Heroes, and Sages. The vast majority, though, have no special abilities and live ordinary lives. For these powerless villagers, going out to hunt monsters is as good as asking for death. Yet one day, a particular two-year-old who was given the villager role uncovers a vital truth: defeating monsters can lead to enormous wealth.
