In "Tokyo Babylon," Subaru Sumeragi is the thirteenth successor of a distinguished onmyouji lineage. Before taking on the full responsibilities from his grandmother, he lives in Tokyo with his energetic twin sister, Hokuto. Subaru is gentle and reserved, while Hokuto is full of life and often creates flashy outfits for the two of them. She also constantly tries to set Subaru up with their friend, veterinarian Seishirou Sakurazuka, who always seems to be available whenever the Sumeragis go out. Subaru deals with numerous supernatural disturbances in Tokyo, handling both assigned cases and those he gets involved in out of personal conviction. His compassionate nature often leads him to absorb the pain of others, making him vulnerable in a city where self-interest prevails. Hokuto believes that Subaru's love for Seishirou might give him something precious that he would not willingly give up for others. However, doubts arise about whether Seishirou truly fits this role, given the potential hidden shadows in his past.

Background

Tokyo Babylon was published in English by Tokyopop from May 11, 2004, to May 10, 2005. Dark Horse Comics gained publishing rights to the series after Tokyopop was dissolved and republished the series in two omnibus volumes from March 26, 2013, to July 23, 2013. A new edition titled CLAMP Premium Collection Tokyo Babylon was published by Yen Press from October 17, 2023, to May 27, 2025. It was also released in Brazilian Portuguese by Editora JBC from June 2005 to December 2005; and in Spanish by Editorial Kamite from September 23, 2016, to April 29, 2017.
