Matsuura, Yuu

Summary

As the central male protagonist and title figure of the series, Yuu earns the nickname "Marmalade Boy" from Miki, who likens him to the spread because he is visually appealing yet possesses a bitter edge. His personality stands in stark contrast to Miki’s; he is generally more detached, emotionally reserved, and guarded about his true feelings. While he frequently displays a poker face that others remark upon, he openly admits to admiring Miki’s capacity to express her emotions clearly, citing it as a key reason for his affection. Yuu is naturally gifted, excelling in academics and athletics across nearly every sport, and his ambition is to become an architect, a goal that leads him to enroll at St. Andrews high school. He often teases Miki, using this behavior as his method of showing affection. Although their first kiss catches her off guard, the prequel film Marmalade Boy Movie clarifies that Yuu had already fallen for Miki before they officially met. Prior to the pivotal dinner where they first interacted, he had spotted her, followed her, and observed her interactions with the Gastman Team.
