Summary
Konatsu is a member of the Black Hawks and serves as Hyuuga's Begleiter. Before the fifth volume, he held the distinction of being the unit's newest recruit, the second youngest member, and the only Black Hawk who did not possess the Warsfeil ability. Regarded as the most rational of the group, he frequently feels stressed or irritated by Hyuuga’s erratic behavior. A diligent worker committed to high standards, Konatsu often acts as the voice of reason, viewing his colleagues as bizarre. His new teammate, Shuri, idolizes him to the point of addressing him as "onii-sama." Despite his professional demeanor, Konatsu is shy, naive, and prone to panic. Katsuragi has described him as having a "beautiful soul." He carries a bat for stress relief and wields two swords, though he typically uses only one in combat. His palate is unusual, sharing a preference with Kuroyuri for candies that repulse normal humans; he found such a candy delicious while it caused Haruse and Hyuuga to faint. Unlike Kuroyuri, Konatsu retains normal taste sensation, though the reason for his enjoyment remains unclear. Born into the Warren family, he was ostracized by everyone except his grandfather for lacking the Warsfeil trait. He compensates for this absence of black magic with exceptional swordsmanship. Although he graduated from the military academy as top student, he joined the Black Hawks to realize his grandfather’s claim that their leader, Ayanami, was the legendary Verloren who could grant him the Warsfeil power. Initially rejected, Konatsu nearly gave up until he saw Hyuuga practicing in the academy backyard. Hyuuga challenged him to a duel, promising his sword if Konatsu could touch him. Though Konatsu lost badly, he unconsciously choked Hyuuga during sleep, technically scoring a hit. Upon waking, Hyuuga handed him his sword and a Black Hawks application. Ironically, Konatsu never became a Warsfeil, deciding that power granted by another would be meaningless. Furthermore, unlike his teammates, he has not surrendered half of his soul to Ayanami.
