Summary
Zirconia is depicted as an elderly, insectoid woman with lavender skin. As the second-in-command to Queen Nehellenia, she oversees both the Amazoness Quartet and the Amazon Trio. Her name comes from zirconium dioxide, commonly known as zirconia. She made her debut in Episode 128 of the anime and Act 34 of the manga, though her gender was altered from female to male in the English adaptation. In the anime, Zirconia resembles an aged version of Nehellenia, serving as the personification of the queen's nightmares. Given physical form, she leads the Dead Moon Circus to locate Pegasus and execute Nehellenia's revenge. She dispatches the Amazon Trio to Earth to find individuals with beautiful dreams, as these are the ones who possess the Dream Mirror where Pegasus hides. Using Zircon, a flying eyeball perched on her staff, she gathers images of these dreamers to provide targets for the Trio. When the Trio fails, Zirconia grows impatient and permits the Amazoness Quartet to send lemures to eliminate them. She then tasks the Quartet with completing the mission the Trio could not. In the manga, the Amazon Quartet refers to her as baa-san, meaning grandmother or old woman. She acts as a mediator between the Quartet and Nehellenia, speaking to the queen through a mirror and offering frequent compliments. Like other Dead Moon Circus members, she dislikes light and feels most at ease in darkness. Her primary motivation is to ensure Nehellenia's plans succeed. Her initial order to the Quartet is to ensure the circus's success on Earth before gradually taking over for the Dead Moon Circus. She instructs them to proceed cautiously against the Senshi and warns that she will not tolerate failure. To conquer Earth, she states, they must first destroy the Senshi by filling them with nightmares.
