Summary
Kantai operates in the shadows as the general of the Baku province and is a hanjyuu capable of transforming into a massive bear. Possessing immense strength that persists even in his human state, he rescues Shoukei after she flees from soldiers attempting to arrest her for throwing a stone at Gahou's executioners. Driven by a desire to uncover Gahou's corruption, Kantai dispatches Shoukei to the Houkaku intermediate village to supply touki weapons to the Shisui rebels. When Suzu arrives to transport these weapons to Takuhou, Kantai becomes aware that his Shisui allies face annihilation at the hands of Gahou and moves his own troops to intervene. Shoukei joins him, locating Suzu to inform the rebels that Kantai supports their cause. Although Kantai initially harbors doubts, he is shamed into assisting Koushou in saving Takuhou from destruction. When Youko inquires about the reward he desires for combating corruption, Kantai requests a pardon for his lord, Koukan. Following Gahou's defeat, Youko places Kantai in command of Kei's entire army.
