Summary
Colonel Henry Douglas serves as an officer within the Military Police headquarters in Central City, where he is tasked with arresting 2nd Lt. Maria Ross for the murder of Brigadier General Maes Hughes. In the 2009 adaptation, an exclusive scene expands on the manga plot, depicting Douglas interrogating Ross while presenting the bullet that killed Hughes. He points out that the projectile matches the ammunition type she uses and questions her regarding a specific ammo requisition form. Although Ross explains that she fired a round while protecting Alphonse at Laboratory 5, she acknowledges the difficulty in proving this since the facility was unmanned and has since become a pile of rubble, making the recovery of the bullet nearly impossible. When Douglas cites eyewitness accounts placing Ross at the scene of Hughes' murder, she insists this is impossible as she was off duty visiting her parents, yet Douglas notes that the testimony of family or close friends cannot be accepted as a credible alibi. Douglas reappears following the incident where Colonel Roy Mustang seemingly burns Ross into an ashy skeleton. He admonishes the Flame Alchemist for allowing personal grievances to drive him to such an extreme, noting that the excessive damage to the body prevents the confirmation of the corpse's identity. His final appearance occurs in Chapter 35, during which Roy and Lt. Hawkeye attempt to mislead the Military Police regarding Scar's location to assist Edward and Alphonse Elric in luring out the Homunculi. While Douglas's ultimate fate remains unknown, it is possible that he was arrested as a conspirator.
