Ryuu, Genson
Summary
Ryuu Genson is a skilled practitioner of the Seven Stars Praying Mantis Fist and one of the two disciples of Ma Ryou, also known as Uncle Hakubi. He is considered the more talented of the pair, exhibiting a personality that is notably more irritable and arrogant than his partner. Visually, Genson distinguishes himself by wearing sunglasses and adopting a more modern style of dress compared to Shokatsu Kouan. His fighting style is classified as Katsujin Ken, and he specializes in Chinese Kenpo. Genson makes his debut alongside Kouan, tasked with retrieving Ma Renka and returning her to Hakubi. During this mission, he engages in combat with Kenichi, who swiftly defeats Kouan. Genson then faces Kenichi himself, driving the younger fighter into a nearby pool. The battle continues underwater, where Genson expresses surprise at Kenichi’s leg strength, a result of the latter’s recent training regimen. Both fighters eventually lose consciousness underwater and are rescued by an elder who comically interrupts the prolonged fight by splitting the water in half. Following the encounter, Genson and Kouan apologize for the confusion caused by Renka and depart with her to return to Hakubi’s residence. Later, Genson reappears when Renka transfers to Kenichi’s school. He accompanies her to combat Black Tiger White Dragon thugs attempting to assassinate her. Although the three initially hold their own against the enemy master, Genson is soon aided by Takeda. Together, the four manage to defeat the master with relative ease. Genson’s prowess in the Northern Praying Mantis stance is notable, and he was anticipated at the D of D by Gaku Shin Ten, likely due to his reputation within the Phoenix Alliance or his demonstrated abilities.
