Summary
Minami Ikoma is a fifteen-year-old middle school student in Class 3-C who struggles to find her place among her peers. Often solitary and introspective, she dedicates herself to the school’s Swimming Club. Despite her passion for the sport, she faces discouragement during her final year of junior high when she is relegated to the role of third substitute on the team. This rejection leads her to consider quitting, yet the realization triggers an unexpected emotional breakdown, revealing just how deeply swimming matters to her. Her perspective shifts dramatically after school one night when she encounters Keima at the pool. She is mesmerized by his flawless and beautiful swimming style, which she describes as shining against the night sky. Unbeknownst to her, this performance is a ruse orchestrated by Keima using Elsie’s feather cloth, but the spectacle instantly captivates Minami and draws her into his orbit.
