Vanitas is a legendary vampire born on the night of the Blue Moon. Ostracized by his kindred, he forged the Book of Vanitas as an instrument of vengeance, granting its controller the power to eradicate all vampires. At some point, he selected a successor named Vanitas to inherit both his name and the Book of Vanitas.
